Art Education
Luis Alberto Garay-Bazán (b. 1965 Peruvian - American) is a Fine Arts and Art Education graduate. He teaches at the CUNY universities system and museums in New York City, Italy, and France. He has been teaching since 1987, and during this journey through time, he continues researching and learning about the vital importance of art education in developing the student's CREATIVITY. For the artist, human creativity was, is, and will always be a support for all the creations and inventions in our world. Creativity is the human expression of survival on our planet Earth. His art advocacy research and direct experience teaching art through the years is ongoing. The educator's mission is to use digital technology and information resources to create new possibilities in the arts beyond the boundaries established by traditional and contemporary art. All museums are vital resources of our culture and reminders of our past historical creativity. Museums are thus guides for our future and are the resources for the creative projects of the coming times through human thought and imagination.
Garay-Bazán's creative journey began growing up in the small mining city of La Oroya, Peru. City, where he took his first steps in arts, crafts, drawing, and painting, being influenced by his parents. His passion and love for all the arts have been full of beautiful moments since childhood. Art studies, academic and scientific research, exhibitions, and teaching in schools, universities, and museums were and are part of his life.
The beautiful millimetric geological plans of mines drawn by his father and the beautiful decorative flowers of her mother were his horizon. For him, the action of painting is sacred, spiritual, philosophical, scientific, and emotional. He has researched the great masters' techniques in the Metropolitan Museum of New York, The Louvre of Paris, the Uffizi Galleries, and the Vatican.
His academic studies began in the private elementary school 31747 after he was granted a scholarship at the private boarding high school Independence. Later, he pursued studies at the National School of Fine Arts in Lima until the 1990s, when the political environment generated by terrorism in Peru caused a challenging time for him. Therefore, he decided to go to New York, where he continued his advanced Fine Arts, Art Education, and Human Rights Studies, which he accomplished at BMCC and Hunter College of CUNY in New York City and the rigorous Academy of Art University.
As an educator, Garay-Bazán loves to share his knowledge and experiences with his students from all levels when he teaches. The professor helps them to develop their creativity and find their own paths to express their emotions, seeing the arts, designs, and creations of traditional and modern art masters. He maintains a curriculum seeking creativity and excellence in their artworks. He strives to create a satisfying, optimistic, altruistic, and extraordinary impact on his students' lives. He provides the platform for them to take risks without fear of failure and success. The professor and his students examine many great ideas in creative projects to find the best ones. During his teaching experience, the facts of innovative art practices have shown that these exercises of the creativity of the arts in the early, adult, or any age are the basis for growth in our imaginations, creativity, cognitive development, critical thinking, analysis, decision-making, and resolving problems in any circumstances and situations of our lives.
In Art Advocacy :
During his years of experience, Garay-Bazán has seen students searching to be better and seeking excellence in their cognitive, expressive, creative, and human purposes. They have inspired him to investigate and discover the forms of art that can help in that search.
Throughout his life, he has conducted personal research during the height of the pandemic. During this time, he has seen evidence of the impact of social distancing and self-isolation, which inspired him to investigate this social impact on all individuals, specifically teenagers and college students. Through this research, it was discovered that arts education and creative expression are essential, vital, and fundamental to healing the psychological and spiritual conditions of the times of pandemic, a dark circumstance for the individuals and humans who have been forced into the condition of self-reflection, searching for the emotional and spiritual self, which has made the wonder of connecting them using technology and at the same time understanding the absence of physical human contact. In addition to this, the pandemic and dark human circumstances brought a high-level connection between individuals that had been lost between them in our society. The purposes of art have been shown to be helpful for this individual and human reflection.
In his academic research field and resources for artistic education studies, Garay-Bazán is constantly deepening his learning and understanding of advanced digital art technologies and resources. He is formulating an excellent educational plan compromised with the best teaching in art education.
In his daily life as an art educator, he shares his love and passion for art studies, academic research, exhibitions, university teaching, museums, and artistic exercise.
His philosophy is to teach and lead "creativity in action" by enhancing the talent and excellence of their students and creating art in the service of humankind.
